Celebrating A New Installment In Nobilis Reed's The Orgone Chronicles

Today on our Cyber Launch Party Blog, we're celebrating a new release in Nobilis Reed's The Orgone Chronicles published by Logical-Lust Publications.

PIRATES by Nobilis Reed
The Orgone Chronicles continues...

After their adventures in SCOUTS [Book One of The Orgone Chronicles, and 2011 EPIC eBook Award Finalist] - Challers and Valka are safe, protected aboard the Pirate city-ship known as "Port." The scars of their ordeal among the Scouts remain, however.

Valka is stuck with a hyper-fertile Ovor body, and the only way for them to raise enough money to change her back, is for them to join the Worthies-reality-TV celebrities who are always on camera. In an environment where loyalty is dismissed and betrayal is rewarded, their love suffers its greatest test yet.

Meanwhile, on Stakroya Station, their classmate Renedy wrestles with a budding sexuality that does not fit the station's rigid mold. An intimate night with the man who has been chosen for her does not go well at all. Instead she finds herself attracted to another woman; a relationship the Station can never condone.

Through it all, the sinister eyes of the Scouts see all. Freedom, for all involved, must be won again and again.

  1. Hello Nobilis and congrats on the new release!

For those not familiar with your Orgone Chronicles, can you please tell us a bit about the series and how the books fit together?

And congrats on SCOUTS, the first book in the series, being a 2011 EPPIE finalist - that's awesome!

Enjoy your launch party today and I hope the new book is your best seller yet!

  2. Hi there!

Thank you, it was a great honor to be nominated for the EPPIE. I was very pleased when that happened.

The Orgone Chronicles take place in a distant future of our galaxy, where the power to send ships faster than light is dependent on human emotions... and the fastest ships are powered by sex.

Challers and Valka start off as a young, naive couple living on the sheltered but oppressive environment of Stakroya Station. When they join the Scouts their love is challenged by the strange new world that opens up to them, serving in a quasi-military service where sexual relationships are a requirement for duty.

In the course of the first book, Challers and Valka escape from the Scouts to join the enemy, the Pirates... and find that things are not so rosy bright there, either.

We also meet Renedy, who was left behind on Stakroya Station. We see more of the life that Challers and Valka left behind.

The two stories pull on themes that are of interest in the real world. On the one hand we have reality TV (shows like Big Brother, for example) where people voluntarily live under 24/7 video surveillance, and the increasing use of cameras and surveillance to keep track of the activities of ordinary folks outside those shows--often without their knowledge or consent.

In Pirate society, the Worthies live their lives in front of the cameras, rewarded for the drama they create: their duels, their alliances, their lies and betrayals, their sexuality--all of it. And we see how this reward system warps those relationships.

Back on the Station, Renedy is forced to be an agent of government surveillance, as she ends up being the one installing secret cameras all around the station. But just because she's behind the camera doesn't mean that she's also being watched.

And of course, all of them are loving, sexual creatures trying to get what they need in spite of the stresses they find themselves under.

  5. A spaceship fueled by sex? Now that is something I have to read!

How on earth did you come up with that? :-)

How many books do you have out and are they all science fiction?

Heading over to read the excerpt now, best of luck with the book.

  7. Shadow_Kohler:

I actually started with the idea that different sorts of faster-than-light drives would be powered by the seven deadly sins. That turned out to be WAY too complicated... so I settled on Sloth, Wrath, and Lust. Worked out pretty good.

    Booklover0226:

No, I've had many different artists long the way. This one was Helen E H Madden, who is absolutely brilliant (and a podcaster like me). Her site is at cynicalwoman.com

    Katie:

As I said, it started as one of the seven deadly sins. Most of my books are science fiction, though I have one coming this summer that is alternate history--set in a Roman Empire powered by steam.

    Lulu:

Good to see you again! Thanks for stopping by.

  11. So far enjoying scouts though I keep getting distracted back to your podcast too. I'm on my phone so I hope these haven't already been asked:

    1) I'm only six or so episodes in to Scouts at Podiobooks and that Scouts already seem pretty sinister. I was really interested in the guild and the marines as concepts, will they be further explores in this book?

    2) Are you going to be releasing a podcast version (maybe I just haven't seen it yet since I'm in the first book? If so, will you be using the same voice talent? So far I have very much enjoyed the voice acting in Scouts.

    Thanks, -Patrick

  13. Debby:

Yes, I have a lot of things planned! I have the third book in the series, plus a near future SF novella called "Riskwear". plus an alternate history of Ancient Rome titled "Ex Fumo Gaudiam (From Steam Comes Joy)." Yes, that last one is about a version of Rome where they discover steam power. Those will all be coming out from Logical Lust.

    Patrick:

The Merchants and the Fleet will be explored in later books. The Merchants get some attention in Hunters, and I have a possible side project that will be set in the Fleet.

If I do a podcast for Pirates it won't be for a while. Producing full cast audio is very time-consuming. It's much more likely that I will do it as a straight read. If I do produce a full cast recording, I will definitely be asking my current voice talent to return; they have been doing a marvelous job.
